Year Report 2016

First Qualifying Competition: The weekend of 24/25 June 2016 Oceanview Rhythmic Gymnastics hosted the First Qualifying Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition from level 4 to Senior National as well as the Regional competition for level 1 to 3, for the Erongo region, at the Dome in Swakopmund.
Oceanview would like to thank the staff of the Dome, parents and sponsors who made it possible for us to host this competition:  FNB, Schutz family, Delta Cooling Services, Tokal, and Sanmilari.  Thank you to the judges and parents helping with the music, results, refreshments and announcements.  The floor manager Mareza and her team, thank you for a job well done.  Thank you Marika for the setup of the results program beforehand and on the days of the competition to be ready for the prize giving fast.
At the competition Oceanview Rhythmic received 18 medals all in all. 8 Gold, 6 Silver and 4 bronze. 155 gymnasts took part in this competition over the two days.
All the Rhythmic gymnasts as from level 4 to senior have to take part in two qualifying competitions during the year before they can partake in the National Championships, whilst the level 1 to 3 gymnasts have one regional competitionand the second qualifying competitionbefore they can attend the National Championships.

Second Qualifying in Windhoek.    24 gymnasts took part in Windhoek in July.   We obtained  13 medals in all.  1 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze.   

SA Games  
After the Second Qualifying competition, a Federation team was selected to take part at the SA Gym Games in Cape Town.  Only the best 5 gymnasts who reach the qualifying mark, in the different age groups as from level 4 is eligible for this Federation team. 
Gymnasts selected were: Level 4 :  Lakeesha Motinga,  Angelina Nawases,  Aviel vd Merwe and in Level 5: Janica vd Merwe. The results at the SA;s  were in most cases higher than at our competition, which is a good thing. Two options  with parents or with group. Reason to get use to travel with a team manager. Once you reach National level, you have to travel with the team.

National Championships in WB:  About 220 gymnasts from all the gymnastics clubs in Namibia participated in the Rhythmic National Championships on 21 and 22 October 2016. Oceanview Rhythmic did very well at the National Championships and we had twenty four gymnasts participated in the competition. Altogether we obtained 7 gold, 25 silver and 12 bronze medals in the different levels and apparatus.


Region 5.
After the National Championships, the Rhythmic Namibian Gymnastics Federation committee selected the 4 best gymnasts (age don’t count) from level 4, 6 and 8 to compete at the Region 5 (previously  Zone 6) Championships in Harare, Zimbabwe in December this year.  Countries taking part Zimbabwe, Angola, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho. Oceanview is proud to say that we have 2 gymnasts in this Federation team.   Angelina Namases, with four medals, was selected for the Pre-Junior team. In Level 8 Carla Schutz, with 5 gold medals, was selected for the Junior team.  Coach Leonie was selected as the Team Manager and will accompany the team of 9 gymnasts and 3 officials to Harare.

Herewith a short report on the Rhythmic Gymnastics @ the Region 5 Gymnastics competition in Harare Zimbabwe which took place from 9 to 11 December 2016
Two Rhythmic gymnasts from Oceanview Rhythmic gymnastics who are practising at the Dome in Swakopmund were selected for the Gymnastics Federation team to compete against SA, Zimbabwe and Angola. Angelina Namases (10yrs) in the PreJunior  section and Carla Schutz (11yrs) in the Junior section. Both the gymnasts in their sections obtained the second places in the team competitions in Harare the past weekend. Furthermore Carla obtained a third place with her hoop ŕoutine and overall 5th place.Both these gymnasts are still young with a promising future ahead.
